Tropeirismo was one of the most important socio-economic moments in the history of Brazil and it is obscured in our memories and far from the cultural and educational programming in our schools!
Founders of dozens of cities, roads and routes, were instrumental in defining our southern borders and in the integration between the current states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso and Rio de Janeiro and regions of northeastern Brazil, forming a true “cultural corridor” rich in traditions that mix the various origins of our country.
Many do not know, but Tropeirismo in Latin America was born in modern Argentina, where the pampas (breeding mules) would serve the exploration of the silver mines of Potosí (modern Bolivia); with the exhaustion of this, the surplus of mules began to be sent to Brazil in the new discovery of Minas Gerais.
Concentrated at the Feira de Muares in Sorocaba, they met the demand of practically the whole of Brazil, making the city a national reference point.
The “Tropeirismo Andino” map is extremely didactic and attractively beautiful for observation; which depicts the routes created in this cycle and which shows the relief, climate, indigenous peoples, the road of the Incas, Jesuit reductions, registration (collection of taxes), etc.
